I just read an interesting article about Anthem Blue Cross raising premiums on all grandfathered plans by 25%.  This is not surprising and fully anticipated, albeit a tad sooner than I expected.

Grandfathered plans are health plans that have been in force prior to the signing of the Affordable Care Act in 2010.  These plans were not required to conform to the new law, so many decided to keep them.  However, it looks like carriers are going to keep raising the premiums on these types of policies until they become too expensive to keep.

So far, only Anthem Blue Cross has made this public statement of increase.  As soon as I see more, I will publicize those as well.

If you have a Anthem Blue Cross policy, give me a call to find out your options.. For some, keeping the grandfathered policy may be the best, for others it may be smarter to switch to a new plan.  Either way … the changes, they are a’comin’!
